Digital Colouring

  1. Crop image in Photoshop
  2. Copy/paste into Illustrator
  3. In Illustrator, go to Threshold slider and adjust it up a bit to bring out the black
  4. Select ‘Default’
  5. Click on the ‘Options’ box which is to the left of the threshold slider and tick the ‘ignore white’ checkbox.
  6. Click on ‘expand’ button.
  7. Bring back into Photoshop.
  8. Paint on base solid colours
  9. Add an adjustment layer (yin/yan) black/white semicircle shape near the new layer shortcut.
  10. Choose ‘curves’ adjustment layer and adjust it to be darker (for the darkness adjust layer)
  11. Click on the adjustment white squre in the layer window to select it and fill it with black (kind of like alpha channel)
  12. Choose a brush with less opacity etc. and paint in white to paint darkness into the image.
  13. Create another adjustment layer for the highlights and do the same thing but this time paint in highlights.
