Opening Adobe After Effects CS4 in CS3

by on Apr.22, 2010, under After Effects

Bit of a dodgey work around but as of yet, this is not possible from within the program (ridiculous really that they wouldn’t include this ability)..

I grabbed this from the following forum site:

I’ve found a way of doing that. It’s a rough way but worked for me.

Just open with “TextEdit” or “NotePad” one project file from cs3 and the one you want from cs4.
Copy this part from the cs3 file: (click the image to view larger version)

And paste over the same header in the CS4 file.
I don’t know if it’s needed but i’ve also changed the version number of the last save at the end of the CS4 file from 9 to 8.
Don’t forget to save the file from the text editor with a different name but with the .aep extension.
You won’t be able to open the file as a project but you can import it with the File-Import menu, you just won’t have the project settings but you can adjust that in 15 seconds.

Will give this a go and post my findings..
