Creating Clothing for models in Zbrush

A quick way to create clothing using the Extract tool in Zbrush.
This is very, very simple. Simply mask off the area you wish to create clothing for using CTRL and painting on the mask onto the model (you can use 'lazy mouse' by holding 'L' key and that will give your strokes a straighter line where necessary).
To extract, go to Sub Tools, and down the bottom, move the thickness slider to something suitable (higher will make thicker mesh) and hit 'Extract'. Select your new sub-tool and paint Read more [...]

Creating a Zbrush character from reference

The steps for one way of using Zspheres to create a character model based on front and side reference images
1. Get a front and side view of your reference image. Be it by drawing, photography, whatever..
2. In zbrush, go tot Texture > Import, select your image file with side and front. go tot he Texture menu and select Texture crop and fill.
3. Choose Zsphere and draw in the top of the hips area, use shift to align it dark side down to the legs
4. use t for edit mode
5. x for symmetrymode

Zbrush Revisited 1

Created my first proper project over the past few weeks and manged to get this to do everything I want so far... It's much more powerful than Mudbrush and there's just so much you can do with it...
UV unwrap and then creating a texture map using Poly paint is an absolute god-send and saved hours of time.. Can save all of the texture maps out as .PSD files and export to Maya for rendering still - I haven't found Zbrush particularly good for doing rendering as of yet but it might just be that I Read more [...]

Zbrush Quick Notes to sort out later

Notes:
Ctrl - N = new canvas.
Work in 2.5D and 3D.
Can 'drop' model to canvas by clicking 'edit a second time. This means you can't rotate it, but you can draw in new copies of the tool.
Holding Alt key lets you 'carve in' when you are sculpting.
Can Undo steps using Ctrl-Z like normal. You can also change the number of Undo's you have through Preferences > Undo Settings.
'Edit Mode' - allows you to take a tool from 2.5D to full 3D state.
Edit shortcut = 'T'.
